Introvert or Extrovert is a very common concept nowadays in identifying basic work habits. Extrovert tend to be more opened, confident and energetic. Meanwhile, introverts are often considered independent, reserved and meticulous in their work. There are a lot of tests online that will help you find out if you are Introvert or Extrovert, you should select good quality tests to get more accurate results. Some tests can be referred to as: 16Personalities by Raymond Cattell, or Myers-Briggs Type Indicator or MBTI. Note that the results of the tests are for reference only, do not reflect 100% and you should be able to contemplate further from your own work.
Through the process of chatting with many students, many of them identify themselves as ‘introverts’. We often have a general anxiety that is ‘introverted’ personality is like a weakness. Many of you ask yourself how to overcome this weakness and become ‘extroverted’. Many also say that introverts are more difficult to integrate in the company, so more difficult to promote and develop. I would like to share something in this article – as an introvert, on how introverts can grow.
If you take the time to learn, there are many people in the world who are successful – and introverts. For example, J.K Rowling – author of Harry Potter, Bill Gates, Emma Watson, Gandhi, Warren Buffet, etc. These people work in many different professions, and many of them are just as suitable for outsiders. So, if you know for sure that you are an Introvert, do not be self-confident, do not look for ways to make yourself ‘outward’, take it as a strength and try to develop it. The first thing you need to do is: Learn how to make Introvert’s actions work in your workplace. You can take the time to do the following:
Understand your strengths and develop that strength
Make a 360 Interview yourself to find out how people around evaluate you. The simplest way to do this is to create a Google Survey, then send it to your close friends, parents, siblings, coworkers, bosses and ask them to take some time to evaluate you. Questions can be referenced:
What do you think are my greatest strengths?
What do you think are my greatest weaknesses?
What kind of job or environments do you see me doing well in?
What makes me stand out from the crowd?
What areas could I be working on to improve myself?
Back to the question above: How does an introvert get into a corporate environment? The answer is: create your own opportunities based on your strengths. For example, if you like playing badminton, open a badminton club and ask your co-workers to play together. By doing so you have achieved 2 things:
1) Colleagues know that you are good at badminton and
2) You have the opportunity to meet, get to know other people through this club.
Introvert people often have smart thinking
Take full advantage of your listening skills Introvert is often considered to be a good listener.
It is not clear or clear, but it is a quick listening and processing of information. ‘Listening’ is also a very important skill when applying for a job – especially consulting or customer services. Those who are capable of listening and willing to listen, will be able to offer more insight and advice
Use writing skills to build a personal brand
Introverted people are people who tend to prefer spending time alone. So why not spend some time to write something a little bit. No need to write too much or as a writer, just write about something you are passionate about and have a lot to say about it.
You can create a blog, spend time writing every day, if possible, you can develop more personal blog become a personal brand of you. And then, people will know what you are, without you having to introduce.
